Our Deck Oil Maintenance
Hard or soft timber? Pine is a softwood tree, Kwila and Matai are hardwood trees. The indication of the need for recoating are signs of dryness and loss of colour. We clean the timber thoroughly with Reviva and recoat with UltraDeck, or Nature’s Timber Oil products.
Cedarwood panel special cares:
- We mix PU sealer, glossy with the hardener in the 80:20 ratio of base and hardener.
- Melamine sealer, glossy is mixed with the hardener in the 90:10 ratio of base and hardener.
- We use wood stains to give the right shade to the wood surface. We apply the wood stain on raw wood before applying the coat. We also apply it over the sealer coat and before the topcoat. Wood stains will fade gradually applied to the exterior wood. The cedar sidings are normally painted every 3-5 years.
Traditional oil-based timber finishes have a high solvent level, this means that for every four litres can of traditional decking oil, at least two litres of VOCs go straight into the atmosphere.
Water-based timber finishes have a very low solvent level, therefore using water-based timber finishes is a far more environmentally responsible option than using a solvent-based equivalent. So, combined with being healthier using water-based timber finishes are much gentler on the environment.
